In October 2006, AAHIVM co-hosted an advisory panel meeting with the
American Medical Association (AMA) on the Revised Recommendations for HIV Testing of Adults,
Adolescents, and Pregnant Women in Health-Care
Settings. The
Recommendations had been met with support from many organizations
representing health care providers; however many questions were raised
about how to effectively and efficiently support health care providers
in the implementation of the revised recommendations. Advisory panel
members suggested the formation of working groups, due to the numerous
issues that must be addressed to successfully implement the
Recommendations.
At that time, the following working groups were launched:
State Policy
Educational Materials/Implementation Materials (systems/operations)/ Communications and Marketing
Reimbursement/Quality Initiatives/Pay for Performance
Corrections
Linkage to Care (Ensuring Follow-up into Care)
Scientific Review/Evaluation Studies
In September 2007, AAHIVM was awarded CDC funds to carry out several activities in line with the following workgroups:
