Governor Bobby Jindal announced that Louisiana would not be participating in the expansion.
Background:
· Currently:
26% of Louisiana residents are enrolled in Medicaid. 64% of all beneficiaries have managed care. Coverage currently extends to 250% FPL depending on the specific program.The Department of Health and Hospitals oversees the state's Medicaid program.
· Expansion:
Expansion of Medicaid to 133% FPL would be a 32% increase over current enrollment.
· Process:
Though Governor Jindal has already stated Louisiana’s stance on Medicaid Expansion, the final decision will follow the regular legislative process.
State Activity:
· Louisiana is one of the states that sued for repeal of the ACA.
· The governor's office has submitted a letter to HHS stating that they will not move forward with EHB benchmark determination without further guidance.
· Louisiana has received an 1115 Waiver to extend coverage to adults who are not pregnant, not eligible for Medicaid or Medicare, live in of the 4 participating parishes, and have income up to 200% FPL. This allows Louisiana to extend coverage on a trial basis.
