Decision Process:
Governor Fallin decided that Ohio will not participate in the expansion.
Background:
· Currently:
22% of Oklahomans are enrolled in Medicaid. 87% of beneficiaries have managed care. The state’s Medicaid covers up to 185% FPL depending on the specific program. The Oklahoma Department of Human Services runs SoonerCare, the state’s Medicaid program.
· Expansion:
Expansion of Medicaid to 133% FPL would be a 32% increase over current enrollment.
· Process:
Governor Mary Fallin announced that Ohio would not be participating citing the long term cost.
State Activity:
- After months of being undecided, Governor Fallin has posted a press release on the Oklahoma Governor’s webpage detailing the decision not to expand Medicaid. The decision was also released in a letter to the DHHS.
- The Governor has said that the Expansion would have come with unbearable costs.
- There has been no apparent outreach or obvious public forum.
